Nature & Wildlife

Encounter Australia's Unique Wildlife in Natural Habitats

The Gympie Region’s position within the Great Sandy Biosphere creates exceptional opportunities for wildlife observation and nature experiences.

The region’s diverse ecosystems – from coastal environments to hinterland forests, freshwater systems to agricultural landscapes – support an extraordinary variety of native species, many of which are found nowhere else in the world.

These natural environments provide authentic wildlife encounters where animals can be observed exhibiting natural behaviours in their preferred habitats. The region’s wildlife experiences range from guaranteed encounters with habituated species to the excitement of spotting elusive native animals in remote wilderness areas.

It’s no wonder we’re one of the most photographed places in Australia! Miles and miles of white sandy beaches, lush rainforests, beautiful waterways and heritage backdrops reminiscent of early Australia. Heck, even the Royal Ballet have danced on our dunes.

We’re inspired by our stunning nature and excited to share it with you. National Parks and state forests, a biosphere and RAMSAR endorsed wetlands.   We live in harmony with nature here and we’re constantly rewarded because of it.

So, grab your boots or your bikes, your kayaks or your paddle boards and start your own story.   Safe swimming beaches, natural tracks and trails, all sort of Australian wildlife and lots of different waterways.
